Puppies
Fully vaccinated puppies can come to the salon from 4 or 5 months old so that they can get used to the experience. The grooming process is going to be a part of their lives and it is important that they have a good association with the process.
Coat Change
A puppies coat will change to an adult coat at around 7 to 10 months. If they are not being regularly groomed the two coats will mat together and this will result in a ‘clip down’ (close shave) the next time they attend.
Bichon Frise
This breed needs to be coming to the salon every 4 to 6 weeks for a full groom and be brushed and combed daily to maintain any sort of length of coat. Owners need to be especially aware of the coat change.
To avoid the ‘clip down’
Some owners love to have their dog completely shaved as the dog is in the sea or mucking around and it suits them. For others that would like to keep a longer trim closer to the breed standard (or “how they look in the book!”) they need to regularly attend the salon and be brushed and combed at home. Frequency of salon attendance depends on breed and coat type, please phone or drop in for advice.
Wash and blowdry
All regular dogs are eligible for a wash and blowdry in between full grooms. This includes a full demat so any knots you cannot get at home can be teased out in the salon and so the coat can be maintained between grooms. For individual prices please contact the salon.
Bathing at Home
If you do decide to wash your dog yourself between grooms, make sure that the coat is mat free. In the salon, your dog will go through a full brush and comb out before ever going near the bath. This is because when a matted dog goes into the bath (or the sea!), the mats will tighten and become more difficult if not impossible to brush out.
